Back To A “Normal” Work Week

Now that school has started and I’m getting myself into a “work and sew” during the weekdays instead of having grandchildren here either 2 or 3 days each week, I’ve made a rather long list of things to do.

You will start seeing more patterns for our plus size children website , TONS of new patterns for our Patterns2Go website  — you won’t believe how many patterns we’ve started or have wanted to start, but due to a lack of time to do much more than work with kids, clean house, do laundry and cook, these other projects have taken a back seat.  We have additional pattern making classes that we’re working on.

And, speaking of sewing and new items, have you checked out the CouponClutch  site lately? There are a bunch of new designs, and among my favorites are these.

The first one is the “giraffe with red trim” and the second one is the “chocolate and pink polka dots”.  There are probably 6 or 8 brand new designs available now to go along with some of the older best sellers.  When you get a minute, and if you are into coupon clipping and using coupons (as most of us do now because of the economy) you owe it to yourself to check out these cool and stylish coupon totes!

It’s Shorts Weather!!

I don’t know what the temperatures are like where you live, but here in “sunny” Florida, it has been HOT, HOT, HOT!  Well, yes, it IS summer now, but the temperatures have been in the mid to upper 90′s for nearly a month now, so I’d say if you haven’t gotten out your shorts and capri pants, it’s probably past time to dig them out!!

And, after trying them on, how did they fit?  If you’re not really pleased with the way they look, perhaps you’d like to try your hand at using your own measurements and making a pattern so you can have a perfect fit.  Check out  for a complete class on how to take your own measurements and how to use those measurements to make shorts, slacks and those capri pants you might want.   The classes are designed for all sizes and shapes — we have plus size classes, regular size classes and a petite size class for those who are too small and petite for regular commercial patterns.

There are also classes for skirts, dresses and blouses, as well as pattern making classes for men and children.  You can make your own patterns according to your own measurements (using our easy step by step illustrated instructions), and be able to say “finally it fits!”

We’ve really seen a lot of sales lately for the skirt and shorts/slacks classes, so I do believe many of you are not too pleased with the way the spring and summer clothes are fitting.  You’ve come to the right place, PatternsThatFitYou  can help you get the fit you’ve been looking for!

Do You Need A New Apron?

This has been the busiest summer I’ve had in a long time!  We have grandchildren here a couple days a week, our son and family will be coming in from Korea in a week or so and will be here two weeks, plus my sewing is piling up.  Then there’s the garden — we LOVE gardening, and I’m now trying to get corn ready to freeze, squash out of the garden, tomatoes, okra, and the list goes on!  And you know the weeds keep growing, rain or shine.

I USED to have a few aprons that I loved to wear, then they got to looking pretty bad, so I started grabbing a towel for wiping hands, etc.  Well, that is no longer going to work for me because the towel is always out of reach when I need it.  Sooooo, I decided it was time to make a few aprons, then realized I simply don’t have time to add one more thing to my list of “to do’s”, so I started a search online for cute aprons.

I found the NEATEST aprons – at  — they are exactly what I was wanting.  My 4 year old granddaughters both love pink, so they helped me pick out this apron:

It looks so comfortable, I may need to order a few more!  Check out all the super designs that are available at FlirtyAprons  and pick out a few for yourself!

When Was The Last Time YOUR Sewing Machine Gave You Problems?

To me a sewing machine is much like a computer – an awesome piece of equipment as long as it is working right, and a total frustration when it decides to act up!

As is usually the case, my sewing machine normally gives me a fit when I’m in the middle of a MAJOR project and can’t afford even 30 minutes of downtime!

Last week was one of those times!  I was sewing 90 miles an hour trying my best to get probably the biggest project I’ve ever undertaken done – on time and perhaps even a little ahead of schedule.  Guess what happened next!  All of a sudden the machine stopped dead in its’ tracks.  I couldn’t get the needle bar to move at all.

Fortunately for me, my husband, the author of Sewing Machine Repair for the Home Sewer  was sitting in the next room reading the paper.  He came in and got the thing fixed (a mountain of thread in the bobbin area had jammed the needle).

Then, as usual, he reminded me that I REALLY need to take a little time and look over the Sewing Machine Repair Book , because it IS possible that something like this could happen to me while he’s on the golf course and I’ll be out of business 2-3 hours before he gets back.  (Indeed, if the jamming had happened an hour later he WOULD have been on the golf course and I would have been out of luck!)

For those of you who aren’t as lucky as I am to have the sewing machine repairman for a husband, I’d recommend that you check out the Sewing Machine Repair for the Home Sewer book  so you don’t have to be “down” even longer than I’d have to be – by having to take your machine into the repair shop.

And, if you are mechanically inclined, or have a husband who is, and would like to add a little extra income into your household, you might want to consider checking out the Sewing Machine Repair as a Home Business manual.

Do You Prefer eBooks?

For many years the only option for purchasing our Sewing Machine Repair and Serger Repair books was to pay for shipping and have them sent through the mail.  With the postage rates going up every year in May, those costs have been getting higher and higher, and almost completely out of sight for those living out of the country, such as Australia, UK, Canada, etc.

For most of last year and the first part of this year we have been working night and day getting all of our books and classes in downloadable eBook format.  We have been very well aware of the fact that when a sewing machine has problems, we all want to get it fixed NOW, not wait 2-3 weeks for overseas delivery, or even 5-7 days which the Postal Service tells us it takes for Media Mail to get to destinations within the United States.

We are very happy to let you know that you can now get all of our pattern making books / classes as downloadable ebooks at,  AND our sewing machine repair, serger repair, complete guide to treadle sewing machines, as well as our complete Sewing Machine Repair as a Home Business are all in downloadable eBook format – you can see them all when you visit our site

By purchasing the downloadable version, you not only get the latest versions of the books, you also can have them IMMEDIATELY, and save dollars by not having to pay shipping on the books.

Check out the site, as well as, and — there are dozens of classes and ebooks available for instant download.

Check Out What We Mailed Yesterday

A few weeks ago I told you about the Coupon Clutches that my daughter started making awhile back.  It seems that as each month goes by she gets more and more orders because clipping and using coupons is getting very popular.  Coupon clipping is probably the best method I’ve seen to help reduce the grocery and drug store bills!

Check out this stack of mailing that we did YESTERDAY!  As you’ve probably guessed by now, I’m the “shipping department” for the coupon clutches and books that we sell simply because I live only a couple miles from the post office.

When you go to to check out the many different fabric designs that are available, I do need to let you know that all of them that are available are “limited editions”, which means that when that certain fabric design is gone, it’s gone because there’s no more fabric available to buy.  The reason I’m saying this is because two of the original clutches are no longer available.  Denise just had an email yesterday asking about the “pink and chocolate” clutch which no longer is visible on the website.  Denise had to apologize to the lady and let her know that it is no longer available, which also is the case for the “blue argyle” clutch.    Denise does replace the “no longer available” ones with different colors, but if something strikes your fancy – go ahead and get it on order.

Check Out The Giveaway At

Another GREAT giveaway has been posted at — this time the giveaway is for a pair of Gingher pinking shears AND a 4″ Gingher thread snips.  The contest runs now through February 1st, with the drawing on February 2nd

You can get up to four entries into this fabulous giveaway – just run on over to Sewing Business and get your entries in!  I love Gingher sewing tools, but I believe the little “thread snips” are the best things they’ve ever made!

Which Gingher items do you like best???? Is Sponsoring A Giveaway!

A few days ago I told you about the super cool coupon clutch (binder coupon holder that holds over 3,000 coupons) that Denise had designed and made.   She can barely keep up with orders — I had NO idea that so many people are involved in coupon clipping (and saving big bucks by doing the coupons)!

Well, Michelle at IHeartPublix is hosting a giveaway for one of the coupon clutches.  All you have to do is go to her post at iHeartPublix and leave a comment in order to be entered into the random drawing.

I would suggest you go to CouponClutch first so you can check them out and see which one you want to drool over while waiting for the drawing to be done.  The drawing includes the coupon clutch binder AND a complete set of inserts for holding all your coupons and any rebates you’re keeping track of — this is a super giveaway, so don’t miss out on your chance to enter it.

Are You Looking For A Part Time Job?

We have had several in our extended family that have fallen prey to the downturn of the economy and have lost their jobs.  That’s pretty tough — kids to feed, house payment to make, utilities to pay (and now the record cold temperatures thoughout many parts of the country increasing power and gas bills to the limit just to try to keep the house a little bit warm)!

If any of my readers own a sewing machine and know how to sew, a clothing alteration business would be super easy and fast to get started.  You already have all the equipment, thread, notions, etc for sewing, so you just need to get the word out that you’re going to be doing alterations.   Our manual “Profitable Sewing Alterations Business” gives you step by step methods to get your business up and running quickly – tells you how to get free advertising, and covers just about everything you need to know in order to get a jumpstart on the home business.

For those with mechanical ability and like to get things working again, I would suggest our Sewing Machine Repair As A Home Business as a part time or full time home business.  From what we read and see, everyone that ever used a sewing machine is bringing them out of the attic or closets and setting them back up again.  These machines that have been setting idle for months or years need to be oiled and adjusted and ready for the owner to start back doing some sewing or repairing of clothing items.  Once again, this manual is written in step by step instruction form to get you going on sewing machine repair and gives sources for getting parts and sewing notions.

Now is the perfect time to start your own home business.  You’ll be very happy with the extra income that could turn into a full time opportunity for you.

How To Improve / Upgrade Your Blog

I told you that I’m going to be passing along information about my New Year’s resolutions — and hoping it might add a little information and motivation for you as well.

The first thing on my list is to do some “revamping” of my blog.  My daughter recently redid the top bar which I think just wonderful — “a perfect day” — that describes many of my days!  Days with my grandchildren are perfect days — busy but perfect because I know they’re growing up so fast.  Days that I don’t have filled to the max with things to do are perfect days because I can slip in a little sewing and crafting.  Days that ARE filled to the max with things to do are also perfect because I’m thankful that I have good health and energy to get things accomplished that are on those lists.  Wow!  Every day can just about be a perfect day.

Back to the resolution — I REALLY need to get my blog onto a WordPress format — our blog is set up using WordPress and I really like all the little “widgets” that can do everything for the blogs.

There is a new book out entitled “Digging Into WordPress” and it appears to be the “bible” of wordpress blogging — covering every detail in laymans language (that perhaps even I can understand!) — plus giving out lots of tips on improving ways to get additional traffic, etc.  Denise has written a post about this book at the SewingBusiness blog, as a “must have for WordPress bloggers” and I’m passing it along to you.  Before she even wrote the post she was telling me about it and giving me links to where it was available (wonder if that was a hint!) and saying how great she thought the book would be because of all the information it contained.  OK, I figured I should take the hint, if that was intended, so I went ahead and bought it for her as a late Christmas gift.  Wait! Her birthday is in March — how about an early birthday gift???

The book cost only $27 which I think was a steal because now maybe I can talk HER into helping me revamp my blog!!

If upgrading your blog is on your list of things to do this year, run on over to the post at and read all about it.  It’s not too early to start implementing the ways you can increase traffic and improve your blog.
