Do You Work From Home?

I've been working from my home for nearly 40 years now -- did a couple "outside" working jobs for two or three years, but drifted right back to doing sewing and crafts from my home.

Right now is a perfect time to start a home business -- people getting laid off, and even WalMart has been cutting hours of their employees in order to keep from laying off people (this is from a friend who works at Wal Mart).  Cutting hours means a cut in the paycheck as well!

Our little grandson, Jacob, goes to Karate every Saturday, and last Saturday the instructor was telling me that he's lost 12 of his students in the last two weeks because the parents could no longer afford to let them attend.  One of the parents is one of those at Wal Mart whose hours were drastically cut and others had lost their jobs.

Anyway you look at it, now IS the perfect time to start a home business.  There are many opportunities that you could look into -- if you do arts, crafts or sewing, check out the SewingBusiness blog and get some information on a variety of work at home ideas that are available to you.

If you are a nail tech, you could easily start your own business from your garage, or extra room or at your kitchen table.  Check out the nail designs at PolyNail and be the first in your area to do the French Tips or the many nail designs that are available there.

If you are mechanically inclined, you might want to check out the sewing machine repair business -- get those machines back in good working order for all those sewers and crafters that are now working from their homes.

Those of us who work from home are actually slightly less affected by the tough times and weak economy simply because we don't spend the gas money driving to and from work, don't need all the latest clothing outfits to keep up with the others in the office, and don't have to spend extra money for lunches,  and in some cases can take care of our own children rather than pay for a day care center.

Think about it --- what are your strengths, and what type of work could YOU do from home?  You might be surprised and what you come up with --- and be able to get ahead financially as well.
