How Much Sewing Are You Doing?
With all the newspaper articles telling about how people are going back to the basics, which includes sewing and mending, gardening and other do-it-yourself projects, I thought it would be interesting to find out how many of YOU are doing more sewing.
My partner, Denise, writes all the sewing industry news posts at our SewingBusiness.com blog, and I'm here to tell you it sounds like mega numbers of people are going back to sewing, and those already in the sewing and alteration businesses are seeing a huge increase in their business. Check out a couple of posts for yourself and you'll see what I'm talking about: "Sewing Hobby Becoming More Popular During Recession", "Handmade Goods Movement Good for Sewers & Crafters", and how about the post "Economy Creates 50% Increase In Repair Business". WOW!!
We can tell the same story here as we've seen a dramatic increase in the sales of our "Learn How To Sew" and "Basic Clothing Construction" books.
If you've ever considered the idea of doing sewing or alterations or even craft items for others, I would say now is the perfect time to jump in and "just do it"! Even if you just want to do more sewing for yourself, you'd be traveling a path that's being taken by thousands and thousands of others. Try it and see if it (doing your own sewing and alterations and repair work) doesn't help your own finances. I believe you'll be in for a real surprise when you see how much difference it will make.
Don't forget the garden! Even a few fresh tomatoes, cucumbers and other veggies can cut down on your grocery bill!
