Tips for efficient sewing
WHOHOO! I've just gotten an invitation to another baby shower! I'm on a roll with the portable diaper changing stations! Because I'm making these between other projects for my quadruplet grandbabies, the thought just ocurred to me that I'd better be making the most out of what available "sewing" time I have -- in other words I need to have some efficient sewing habits. Here again, there are certain habits that I maintain, and others that I'm working on. For instance I've always clipped stitches from the beginning and end of the seams - I learned a long time ago that if I waited until the garment was finished it became a major chore to go back and try to clip the loose threads. And to just "let them go" made a totally unprofessional look, which I did not want. Right now I'm working very hard on the "clean up the sewing area after each project" habit. With several projects on my table at the same time, it's very easy for me just to start stacking things up -- left over fabric, pattern pieces, etc. I have a little sign behind my sewing machine which reads "A place for everything and everything in its place". Yes, I know my sewing room would look much better with everything organized, and much more "inviting" than a messy, piled up area with just a "path" to the sewing machine. OK! I'll work on the "organized" part just as soon as I get all these portable diaper changing stations made and the current little outfits that I'm making for the quads finished!!
