Sewing for plus sizes

We've had a lot of emails and "good things" said about our PlusSizeChildren.com and BigBeautifulPeople.com sites regarding the fact that there are literally no clothing patterns or ready made clothing items that really fit plus size children, full figure women and super full figure women.  The statement has been made  "what took me so long to find you?" (I don't know - we've been around for quite a few years!)  At any rate, I want to give you something to think about when buying a clothing pattern and fabric for the plus size is what the "appearance" of the finished garment will look like.  **Dresses with several rows of elastic sewn at the waistline will appear to thicken the waist and shorten the height, while semi-fitted dresses with vertical line designs and A-line skirts will give a thinner and taller appearance.  **Solid colors and vertical lines will heighten the body, while contrasting colors in tops and skirts, as well as big bold prints will shorten it.  **Waists seem to expand with wide or conspicuous belts or buckles.  **Hips will seem to increase in girth with tight or full skirts.  The A-lines or princess style skirts will create a more slimming appearance.  There are other items to consider, but these are the most obvious, and sometimes can easily be overlooked.
