Trims and bias tape need to be preshrunk before use

Trims and bias tape need to be preshrunk before using or the edges and trim will get distorted after the first cleaning.  An easy way to preshrink trims is to bend the cardboard that it's on and slip it out.  Place the entire trim/bias tape piece, still folded, in a bowl of cool water and let soak for 15-20 minutes.  Remove the trim/bias tape from the water and gently squeeze out the excess water and let it dry.  It can then be placed back on the same cardboard holder and ready for use.  Another note - trims and appliques are much easier to sew if you will use a glue stick on them.  Rub the glue on the trim and position it on the garment - this eliminates the need for pinning or basting.
