Buttons for small children
Our quadruplet grandbabies, just a little over two years old, and their 3 1/2 year old big brother, want to do everything themselves. We hear a chorus of "I do it! I do it!" throughout the day, whether it's taking dirty clothes to the laundry room, taking Papaw's slippers to him, picking up something that fell, whatever the situation is. Now they're all wanting to dress themselves. Pulling on shorts or pants is one thing but trying to button shirts is a different story. We've found the perfect solution - Velcro "coin" closures. To use this method of button closures, use the following steps.
First sew the buttonholes closed, then clip off the buttons and position them in the center of the CLOSED button holes (you will have the APPEARANCE of button closings). Next, take velcro "coins" (they come in several colors and sizes) and iron them to the back of each of the button/button hole locations, and iron the other half of the "coin" to the opposite front section that you previously removed the buttons from. You have just made a "button" looking closing that will be opened and closed with velcro ease!
This type of button closure is also perfect for anyone with arthritis in their hands or other hand related disorders whose fingers cannot manipulate the buttoning process.
